Premier League predictions, football

Crystal Palace to win at Burnley @ 2.60

Burnley picked up an unexpected point at Chelsea before the international break and will look to build on that at home to Crystal Palace. We’re not reading too much into that result, though, given how dominant Chelsea were and 10th-placed Palace have been much more impressive this season. The bookies are struggling to separate these two teams but we think Palace have the edge in quality and consistency and can leave Lancashire with three points as the first of our Premier League predictions this weekend.

Southampton to win at Norwich @ 2.00

New Norwich manager Dean Smith faces Southampton for the second time in a fortnight and will hope for revenge at Carrow Road. A 1-0 defeat against the Saints prior to the international break resulted in Smith being sacked by Aston Villa so he will know all about his first opponents now he has moved to East Anglia. Unfortunately for Smith, we think Norwich have less quality than Villa and he has had little time to work with his new squad so we’re backing another away win here. Southampton have taken 10 points from their last four games and only Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea have conceded fewer goals.

Manchester United to win at Watford @ 1.50

There have already been five managerial changes in the Premier League this season but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer survived the international break and now takes his Manchester United team to struggling Watford. United have only won one of their last six games but are still firm favourites to get the better of Watford, who were the first club to act this season when they brought in Claudio Ranieri to replace Xisco Munoz. The Hornets have lost three of their four games under Ranieri and it would be a surprise if that record improved this weekend.

West Ham to win at Wolves @ 2.35

West Ham spent the international break flying high in third in the Premier League and victory at Molineux would be further proof they are genuine top-four challengers. Wolves start the weekend in eighth but have played just one of the teams above them in the table and that was a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United. All five of their wins this season have been against teams currently in the bottom half so there are tougher games on the horizon, starting this weekend. West Ham are one of only three top-flight teams unbeaten on their travels and can claim another away win here.

Liverpool to beat Arsenal @ 1.47

Arsenal have made the most of a favourable run of fixtures to climb the Premier League table but face a much tougher test at Anfield on Saturday evening. The Gunners have won six matches during an eight-game unbeaten league run and are up to fifth but they did not face a top-six team in that time. They lost 2-0 to Chelsea and 5-0 at Manchester City earlier in the campaign so we’re backing Liverpool to get back to winning ways as the last of our Premier League predictions for Saturday.
