Chelsea appeared to have Manchester City’s number last term following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, winning three straight late meetings.
The London club prevailed in the FA Cup semi-finals, the Premier League away from home and famously in the Champions League decider.
Having also started this season in a more convincing manner, 7/4 for Tuchel’s side to oblige again is our first Chelsea vs Man City prediction.
A Look At Chelsea’s Betting Odds
Chelsea have only dropped two points from five Premier League matches so far and they were much the better team in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool until Reece James was sent off.
The Blues took a while to warm up when visiting Tottenham last weekend but the half-time introduction of N’Golo Kante then inspired them to a superb 3-0 success.
Thiago Silva, Kante and Antonio Rudiger hit the target while Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner had other chances to increase the advantage.
“If you have N’Golo, you have something everyone is looking for – he is a top player,” Tuchel beamed.
“You have everything you need in midfield; you have work-rate, intensity, ball wins, skilful play, dribbles, half-field drives and even a goal.
“I see this every day in training and it is hard to believe how good he is. He is a unique guy, there are no more words from me. N’Golo is N’Golo, he is fantastic.”
With Fernandinho now looking his age, City lack the same energy in the engine room and Chelsea can take advantage.
Games between these teams will always be tight, though, so 10/3 for the hosts to win by just a one-goal margin appeals from the Chelsea vs Man City odds.
Last Chelsea EPL line-up: Kepa, Rudiger, Alonso, Christensen, Silva, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Havertz, Lukaku.
Mason Mount will miss out due to a minor injury picked up in Wednesday’s 4-3 EFL Cup penalty shoot-out win over Aston Villa. Edouard Mendy has shaken off a hip problem to start in goal, but Christian Pulisic is still sidelined with ankle trouble.
A Look At Manchester City’s Betting Odds
City are only three points behind the early pacesetters and overcame a slow start last season to run away with a third title triumph in four years.
However, the vibes coming out of Etihad Stadium are far from positive at the moment, both on and off the pitch.
Pep Guardiola became embroiled in a row over empty seats at City’s 6-3 Champions League triumph over RB Leipzig.
The Spaniard also suggested his players were already suffering from fatigue ahead of a lacklustre goalless stalemate with Southampton on home turf.
City had not tested Alex McCarthy until substitute Phil Foden’s effort beyond the 90-minute mark, with Raheem Sterling’s follow-up shot – and goal – chalked off by the offside flag.
“We did not win because our process to make the build-up, to play, to create or give better balls for the players up front was not good,” moaned Guardiola.
“We didn’t do our process from the back four and Fernandinho – the five guys who have to bring the ball for the other players. It was not good.”
Guardiola was already without John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri and Oleksandr Zinchenko against Saints and then hinted Ilkay Gundogan was nursing a problem.
Let’s add 11/2 for Draw HT/Chelsea FT to our Chelsea vs Man City betting tips.
Last Man City EPL line-up: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Ake, Cancelo, Gundogan, Grealish, Silva, Fernandinho, Sterling, Jesus.
City could have John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Rodri back in contention as some of Guardiola’s injury problems begin to subside, but Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksandr Zinchenko are expected to again miss out.
Last EPL result:
Tottenham 0-3 CHELSEA – Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger
MAN CITY 0-0 Southampton
Head-to-head: Man City 0-1 Chelsea, Man City 1-2 Chelsea, Chelsea 1-0 Man City, Chelsea 1-3 Man City, Chelsea 2-1 Man City
